Re 4/4'' in Zürick Hauptbahnhof

The first Re 4/4" was first put into service in 1967 (80 tons, max speed 140 Km/h, 6320 HP), it succeeded to the Re 4/4' first entered into service in the beginning of the fifties. The Re 4/4' was a real innovation in the Swiss locomotive panorama being the first Bo-Bo engine (58 tons, max speed 125 Km/h, 2520 HP). The Re 4/4'was additionnaly elegant and nice looking. Back to the Re 4/4", 241 of these have been put into service. On the Alpine lines special gearing was substitu ted and these engines are designated as Re 4/4."' Recently the original green livrery was replaced by a red livrery with rectangular halogen headlamps and single branch pantograph (instead of the original diamond shape ones). The Re 4/4" can be seen on SBB-CFF-FFS, SOB, Mittel-Thurgau- Bahn (MThB), EBT, VHB (Vereinigte Huttwil-Bahnen) among others.
