Message from the general chair

Welcome to Trois-Rivičres and to the conferences Vision Interface and Quality Control by Artificial Vision!

For the first time, these two conferences are held in conjunction. This event is unique for many reasons. Besides the complimentarity of the themes of the two conferences, special efforts were done in order to encourage the industrial participation on one hand, and the participation of students on the other hand.

The industrial participation is particularly important this year. Not only the industrial partners present their works in regular sessions, but they also have the opportunity to present industrial posters and advertising booths. Furthermore, two workshops are organized. The theme of the first one is industry-researchers link up and is organized by CIPPRS and the National Research Council of Canada. The second workshop presents the most recent developments in the international project named HUTOP (Human Sensory Factors for Total Product Life Cycle).

The participation of students is also particularly important this year thanks to the reduction of the registration fees and to the organization of a non reviewed poster session for graduate students. The best student poster is awarded.

The 1999 edition of the conferences Vision Interface and Quality Control by Artificial Vision is definitely a big success. This success is due to the wonderful work of the members of the organizing committee and their collaboration. I would like to thank sincerely the VI program co-chairs, Marc Parizeau and Djemel Ziou, the QCAV program co-chairs, Sophie Kohler and Philippe Bolon, and the local co-chairs, Nadia Ghazzali and Alain Chalifour. I would like to thank also professor Lew F.C. Lew Yan Voon and professor Seiji Hata, both very involved in QCAV conferences, for their collaboration in the organization of the 1999 edition of VI and QCAV.

Welcome and thank you for your participation to VI/QCAVš99.
