Although VI was originally a Canadian conference, the table of contents of these proceedings shows that it also has an important international participation. Indeed, we have this year received 115 papers from 19 different countries. Each of these papers was sent to three members of the program committee for a thorough review using a double blind process. The reviews were returned to the program co-chairs and we finally accepted 83 of the 115 original papers using mostly criteria of innovation and quality of experimental results.
Because of the relatively high number of accepted papers this year, we were forced for the first time in VI history to have both a poster session and parallel conference tracks. A total of 61 papers were accepted for oral presentation while 22 were accepted for poster presentation. Also, we have invited four well known speakers that will give us their views on four different topics in artificial vision. We hope that the conference program will please you both for the quality of its contributions and for their diversity.
The organization of a conference is a task that requires the collaboration of many people. We would like to thank warmly all the program committee members and their collaborators for their thorough reviews of the papers. We also thank all of the authors that submitted papers, no matter if these were accepted or rejected. Obviously, without them there would be no conference. Many thanks to all!
Finally, we would like to address special thanks to Claudette Cedras without whom we could not have finish in time preparing these proceedings on three different media.
